Let’s Fix This
🤙🏻 My name is Josh.
I’m a longtime resident of Ocean Beach and a tech professional who’s spent a career bringing people together to solve hard problems—through dialogue, through transparency, and through respect.
Now, I’m running for our HOA board because I believe we deserve leadership that reflects those same values.
For years, I’ve spoken up — not with shouting, but by following the rules. I submitted public records requests. I posted flyers since 2022 — fully protected under CA Civil Code 4515. And for exercising my rights — which an engaged neighbor should feel free to do, I’ve been silenced, fined nearly $10,000, and taunted by board members and staff.
To prevent the board from calling me “delinquent” and disqualifying me from running, I placed the full amount into escrow—just to protect my right to stand for election.
The HOA has quietly removed bulletin boards — just like they did with our community sharing tables—without notice, without explanation, and without legally required alternatives to satisfy our right to distribute flyers under CA Civil Code 4515.
Why? To restrict public discourse? To limit their accountability? Or maybe just by design to effectively stop homeowners from questioning their power. The result: intimidation, silence, and a community growing quieter by the day.
What I see is a community that’s been intimidated into whispering. People looking over their shoulders before saying what they believe. Folks afraid to speak freely near cameras because they worry about retaliation. That’s not just unhealthy—it’s tyrannical leadership.
But I’m not running out of bitterness. I’m running out of hope. Hope that we can be better than this. That we can have a community where disagreement is met with dialogue, not punishment or retaliation. Where rules apply to everyone, not just some. Where we build—not tear down—spaces for neighbors to come together, share ideas, and solve problems. Let’s begin.
